How the Municipal Government Works
The Mayor and Township Committee
Mendham operates under the Township form of government. The Township committee,
which is the Governing Body, consists of five members elected at large for three year
overlapping terms. The Committee annually selects one of its representatives to
serve as Mayor.
In order to ensure good communications and continuity of the conduct of Township business,
members of the Township Committee serve as members, or liaison to, all other Boards,
Committees, and Commissions within the Township government. The Township Committee
exercises control over the conduct of municipal business by means of legislation through
ordinances or resolutions, approval and adoption of annual municipal budgets and the
formulation of of policy to be carried out by the staff.
Office of the Township Administrator
As provided by local ordinance, the Township Administrator serves as the Chief
Administrative Officer, responsible for the conduct of day to day municipal business.
The various municipal department heads report to the Administrator. His
duties include the coordination of activities of the Township, implementing the decisions
of the Township Committee, the efficient and proper delivery of services to the community
and the negotiation of contracts for the Township. |
