Mendhams To Study Feasibility of Consolidated Police Services

Mendham Borough and Mendham Township officials announced today a plan to study the development of a new regional police department to serve both communities.

“There is a belief that certain efficiencies and cost savings can be achieved through the regionalization of police services. The study we have agreed to undertake will seek to confirm the feasibility of a regional department and the efficiencies and savings that can be attained through consolidation” said Township Mayor, Robert Pierson and Borough Mayor, Richard Kraft in a joint statement.

The Mendhams will be hiring a management consultant to conduct the regionalization study. The results of the study will be used by both municipalities to guide a final decision on the question of consolidated police services. Municipal officials estimate the cost of the study to be approximately $10,000.

“This is an exciting venture for the Mendhams which if successful could become a model for shared services state-wide. Regardless of the outcome we look forward to working together on this important study” stated Mayors Pierson and Kraft.
