Township Eases Restrictions on Water Usage
Residents of Mendham Township are now under state water usage requirements after
the Township Committee voted unanimously to rescind local water restrictions at
their April 8 meeting.
The Committee rescinded the local restrictions to allow the newly established
state water restrictions to take effect in the Township.
Restrictions in town are now consistent with state rules, which among
other restrictions, include widespread bans on washing of paved surfaces,
watering of lawns and the washing of vehicles.
The state restrictions do provide for certain allowances such as the
watering of sod on new construction (for the first 45 days after planting) and
the limited hand-held watering of gardens and shrubbery.
Mayor Kathryn Porter stated “Our community and this state still face a serious
water emergency and I urge all our residents to do whatever they can to continue
conserving water. We rescinded our
local restrictions because we felt the Township needed to be consistent with the
state. The state restrictions, while
less strict that our local restrictions, are both fair and comprehensive, and we
felt to avoid the confusion of our residents we should have just one set of
restrictions in place.”
