Township to Close Two Parks for Controlled Deer Hunt

    MENDHAM TOWNSHIP WILL CLOSE BUTTERMILK FALLS PARK, ON COMBS HOLLOW ROAD AND CALAIS ROAD, AND BURNETT BROOK NATURAL AREA ON ROUTE 24 AND MOUNT PAUL ROAD FOR A CONTROLLED DEER HUNT.  THE PARKS WILL BE CLOSED FROM MONDAY, DECEMBER 4 THROUGH SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2000 AND AGAIN FROM WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13 THROUGH FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15.  THE RULES FOR THE PARK HUNT WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:

  • All hunters must be registered hunters in Mendham Township
  • All hunters will participate in a shooting proficiency demonstration on November 19, 2000
  • All hunters will be required to shoot an antlerless deer BEFORE being able to shoot an antlered deer
  • All hunters will sign in each day at Mendham Township Police Headquarters
  • All deer shot will be recorded at Mendham Township Police Headquarters
  • NJ Fish and Game Rules and Regulations will be in effect during the hunting days and for all deer taken.
  • The hunters chosen to hunt the parks will be chosen by a lottery
