On
Saturday, October 5, the new Ralston Playground at Wysong Park will be dedicated
by the Mendham Township Committee. The
dedication ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on the grounds of the
playground. The
playground is located at the Township owned Wysong Park on Route 24 near the
Ralston Firehouse. The playground
was designed and funded by the Nickelodeon Fund, Inc., a non profit organization
formed by Township residents, Theresa and Matthew Finlay.
The playground is a memorial to the Finlay’s son Nicholas, who died of
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) on February 7, 1999.
The
120 by 135 foot playground includes separate playing areas for infant/toddlers,
pre-school and school age children and features play structures modeled after
historic sites of the Mendhams. The
playground was constructed by community volunteers, local contractors and the
Township Public Works department. The
Township Mayor and Committee, the Finlay family and Nickelodeon Fund
representatives and the many volunteers who helped construct the playground will
be in attendance at the dedication. The
public is also invited and encouraged to attend the dedication ceremony. The
dedication ceremony will be held rain or shine.
