Mendham Township To Form Cable Television Advisory Committee The Mendham Township Committee has announced that it will be forming a Cable Television Advisory Committee to guide in the negotiation of a new cable television franchise agreement for the Township. The Township’s present franchise agreement with RCN of New Jersey, Inc. expires in 2001. Under state and federal law the Township is required to complete a multi-step re-franchising process to establish a new franchise agreement for cable service. This process includes fact finding on the current franchisee’s compliance with the existing agreement, assessment of the communities future cable needs and expectations, negotiation of a new franchise agreement and ultimately municipal consent for the new franchise agreement. The committee will have the responsibility over the fact-finding and assessment portion of the process and will prepare a report for the governing body summarizing their findings. The committee will also serve as an advisor to the Township Committee on all matters related to the franchise negotiation and municipal consent process.
