Goals
The goals of
the open space program include:
- Preserving
the rural atmosphere and character of the Township
- Providing
larger contiguous parcels of land to protect desirable environmental
features
- Enhancing
and protecting the recharge of aquifers and wells, while improving stream
and underground water quality and reducing storm water runoff
- Protecting
desirable historic features
- Supporting
active and passive recreation
- Preserving
property values and mitigating the need for property tax increases
Mendham Township has
preserved 1,500 acres, with the assistance and support of the New Jersey Green
Acres program, the Morris County Open Space Trust Fund, the New Jersey
Conservation Foundation, the Township’s own Open Space Trust Fund, and the
generosity of numerous Mendham Township residents who acted to preserve their
land as open space as an alternative to development.
