FOREST WETLAND FIELD HIKING HISTORIC REMAINS NOTES
1. SCHIFF NATURE PRESERVE (Schiff Natural Lands Trust) Pleasant Valley Road 298-acres Yes - Yes Yes, extensive. Former Boy Scout training area. Schiff Natural Lands Trust (not Township owned).  The nature preserve has a variety of terrain, all beautiful.
4. BURNETT BROOK Mount Paul Road, an unpaved road off Route 24 opposite the Westmont Montessori School 68 acres Yes Some - Yes.  Easy, with some low but narrow log bridges over wet areas. - Area includes 2 separate properties.  A new, 1-mile trail completed on lower property.  Nice pond.
6. MEADOWOOD PARK Old Mill Road. 50-acres Yes - Yes Yes Remains of summer camp communities. Good family recreation and picnic site, hiking along Burnett Brook.
8. BUTTERMILK FALLS 1. Calais Road between Mountainside and Amalia Court
2. Combs Hollow Road
208 acres Yes Some - Yes, extensive.  Some easy, some steep and rocky. Yes.  Colonial industry remains: mines, earthen dam, millraces, forges,etc. Miles of trails, beautiful stream, popular falls, wetlands.  Industrial area in colonial times, many historic remains.  Contiguous with India Brook area (see below).
9. INDIA BROOK Mountainside Road, near Ironia Road; parking opposite. 58-acres Yes - - Yes See Buttermilk Falls.  Millraces, bridge abutments, forges. Contiguous with Buttermilk Falls area (see above). Follows India Brook.
11. COLD HILL End of Robert Road, off Summit Road, Brookside. 46 acres Yes Yes Yes Yes, but no formal trails. - Good view from the entrance area, which is high in elevation.  Trails proposed, nice to walk through the varied terrain as is.   Small pond.
15. DISMAL HARMONY 1. East Main Street, Brookside (north side of road)  2. Tingley Road (opposite Washington Valley Rd.) 3. top of Stoney Hill Road  4. Woodland Terrace, off Woodland Road near Clyde Potts Reservoir. 146 acres Yes Some - Yes, extensive.  Most easy, a few steep options. Yes.  Legend Rock formation. Various cabin and foundation remains, ponds and millraces. A beautiful hiking area, a "must see" during Fall foliage.
18. TEMPE WICK Tempe Wick Road opposite Drakewick development. 51-acres Some Yes  Yes (mostly) Yes, but no formal trails. Yes.  Former farm land of NJ Governor Franklin Murphy. Principally field, different from our other lands which are mostly forest.  Much of the fields and the limited forest are wetland.
